WMU
“Missions for Life”
What is WMU?
WMU stands for Women on a Mission Union. The WMU Organization, established in 1888 under the Southern Baptist Convention, began in the hearts of visionary leaders to pray and systematically raise funds for missions. Since that time, WMU has helped Southern Baptist Churches raise over 7.5 billion dollars through the Lottie Moon Offering and the Annie Armstrong Offering. Based in Birmingham, Alabama, WMU’s unwavering focus on making disciples of Jesus who live on mission happens through missions’ discipleship, leadership development, and compassion ministries, with kingdom impact in every state and nearly 50 countries.
WMU carries out this mission by:
WMU seeks to come alongside the church to accomplish the mission of God. God issued the mandate for us to be involved in missions through the Great Commission. Our desire is to see all ages energized and motivated and equipped for missions.
WMU Vision:
To further the cause of Christian missions and ensure the financial future of WMU.
The Mission:
To engage missions-minded individuals and entities to encourage, motivate, facilitate, and sustain the investment of resources for the benefit of WMU and the causes it supports. WMU offers organizations and approaches as well as ministries that enable every member of the church to learn about missions and live a missional lifestyle.
At Buck Prairie, we are dedicated to missions both at home and abroad through a ministry network called WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union). WMU meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 9:30 AM at Buck Prairie, led by Director Betty Baum with the assistance of many dedicated ladies from our church. Each week, we work on organizing, planning, and studying God’s Word as the foundation for our ministry. We continue to promote missions through various events and programs.
